Wetting the painted area first before scrapping it off, will keep dust to a minimum. Wet paint causes less dust than flaky paint.

Establishing your baseline and the direction of floor is a crucial step.Be meticulous in measuring and marking lines.Remember the longest outside wall gives the best visual effect. Being meticulous with the details can make the proces easier and quicker.

If you won’t put enough nails on the hardwood floor then the flooring is going to be loose and it will make a lot of disturbance they are walked on. So make sure that there are enough nails to keep the floor intact.

While carrying for my cousins cat my dog and cat became very territorial and began urinating in each others places. The visiting cat is gone, they are still doing it occasionally, but only in the hallway where I can’t seem to get rid of the smell. The cat urinates outside the room where the dog sleeps and the dog urinates outside the room the cat sleeps in. I have a 98 year old house with painted wood floors and nothing I have done seems to get rid of the smell or stop them from doing it. I bought a product called ‘odoban’ that helped some but when I use it my husband sneezes up a storm. I think if I get rid of the smell they will stop but I just don’t know how to get the smell out of old painted wood. HELP! Thanks so much for any suggestions

I’ve had good luck with a product called Nature’s Miracle. You can get it at Petco and other pet stores. It’s relatively mild, and works by breaking down the proteins that encourage bacteria and create odors.

It can seep into wood, so you don’t have to rip up the wood floors. Once the problem is under control, refinish and reseal the floors.
