some questions on wood burning/engraving?
hey, im making a small plaque for a friend it has a poem and her name, in using a dremel tool, a soldering iron and a blowtorch,
1) i want to dim the back ground a bit just to make it look nicer, blow torch is ok for this or is there a better tool?
2) after burning the surface i want the letters i engrave to stand out ie*white letters surrounded by burnt-ish wood
3)im using bass wood, if i take my time i can make it look good but i just need to know of any tips or opinions you may have

Basswood is VERY soft .Unless you have done this before using basswood, I would be very carful. You could burn your project more than you intend to.

Help..wood burning tool?
I am making a hair bow with grosgrain ribbon and the instructions say to “heat cut the pieces” does this mean use a wood burning tool? I never used one and not sure if this is what she means.

they mean to use an electric knife….the heat will melt some of the ribbon and prevent it from unraveling. you can get an electric knife at most hobby /craft stores
